New York Mask

In the 1970's, Rangers fans were notorious for turning on their stars. Despite this, "Fast Eddie" maintained his popularity with the Rangers throughout the 70's.

Ed was among the last of the goalies to employ a protective mask.

Giacomin wore this mask from 1971 to 1973 while with the Rangers.

Detroit Mask

Ed Giacomin wore this mask with the Detroit Red Wings from 1976 to 1978.

The sparks painted on Ed's mask were a promotion for spark plugs which the NHL was not very thrilled about. Ed was interested in using a more elaborate and descriptive graphic design but settled with the middle of the road red sparks design to keep it simple with the NHL.
